If you live in Toronto, and didn’t vote in the advance polls, please vote tomorrow. I can’t tell you who to vote for, but please do some research and use your democracy and make your voice count.
There’s a lot of voter information at the link above. I’ll quote some important bits.
Who Can Vote
You can vote in Toronto’s municipal election if you are:
- a Canadian citizen; and
- at least 18 years old; and
- a resident in the City of Toronto; or
- a non-resident of the City of Toronto, but you or your spouse own or rent property in the City; and
- not prohibited from voting under any law
You may only vote once in Toronto’s municipal election regardless of how many properties you own or rent within the City. You must vote in the ward where you live.
An owner or tenant of non-residential property, or their spouse, is not eligible to vote for school board trustee.
Who Cannot Vote
You are prohibited from voting on voting day if you are:
- a person serving a sentence of imprisonment in a penal or correctional institution
- a corporation
- a person acting as executor or trustee or in another representative capacity, except as a voting proxy
- a person convicted of a corrupt practice described in section 90(3) of the Municipal Elections Act, 1996
Voting Opportunities
Election Day
Monday, October 27 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
City Hall
Tuesday, October 14 to Friday, October 17 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. You may vote at Toronto City Hall, 100 Queen Street West no matter where you live in the City.
Identification
To vote in this election you must provide identification showing your name and qualifying Toronto address. A complete list of acceptable forms of identification is available at www.toronto.ca/elections/voters.
If you do not have acceptable identification, but your name is on the voters’ list you will be required to sign a Declaration of Identity to receive a ballot. You can vote on any one of the 6 advance vote dates. You do not need a reason to vote early. If you need assistance in a language other than English, remember to bring someone with you to act as an interpreter when you go to vote.
